Everybody Wants to Feel Important

If everybody wants to feel important, how do so many organisations manage to make so many people feel so unimportant?

Some comments from the Saratoga Institute's surveys show there are several ways that working people are made to feel unimportant:

Lack of Simple Appreciation. A manager said he was not able to spend any money on employees to show appreciation for a job well done.

Too Much Focus on the Numbers, Not Enough on People. Company leaders should recognise employees or understand that despite all the focus on productivity, profits, and customers, they also should be flexible and appreciate the employees.

Feeling They Deserve Recognition and Don't Get it, While Others Do. One employee said: "When you are in a remote office, you are forgetten about". Another said: " They do not show appreciation to the people who do the work, they give praise to the managers of the people that do the work".

Feeling That No One Even Knows or Cares if They Exist. One employee lamented thatt he office never seems to receive any recognition in any kind of corporate newsletters or bulletins. Many feel isolated adn ignored. - CT
